Handsome Boy could not stop bouncing as he thought about all he would do today. Lovely Girl chattered on and on and on about the frogs-and-not-butterflies-hopping-around-in-her-stomach as she thought about all she would do today.
We had the usual First Day of School special breakfast (i.e an actually planned-ahead-and-not-hopelessly-rushed breakfast - which they probably won't see again until next year's First Day of School).
We did the usual First Day of School last minute backpack check.
We had the usual First Day of School tussle over combed hair, and brushed teeth, and Are-you-wearing-underpants? (OK, well, that last one goes on pretty much every day, but only with Handsome Boy).
We snapped the usual First Day of School pictures.
We snapped the usual second round of First Day of School pictures - this time without the surreptitious bunny ears.
We did the usual First Day of School wee-bit-too-early gallop to the bus stop - too excited to wait any longer.
We did the usual First Day of School waves and smiles as the kiddos boarded the bus and bounced into their seats.
So now, the bus is lumbering along to school, and we have lumbered along back home. The house is the usual First Day of School quiet. And the usual First Day of School empty.
Yes, Handsome Boy and Lovely Girl are off for the First Day of School.
And we miss them.
